CIY- Collect It Yourself, Southwest-Boho Backdrop

Southwest meets boho cool ceremony backdrop

I want to wish all those celebrating, a very Happy Thanksgiving today! This will be my first Thanksgiving EVER that I will not be at home with my family eating large amounts of turkey and all the sides, drinking plenty of wine, and sharing what we're thankful for around my grand parent's table. Luckily we have some friends visiting and tons of football to watch at our favorite pub, so plenty to be thankful for. And in a few short weeks, we'll be back home for good! I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday with family and friends!

Speaking of things to be thankful for. I am beyond thankful I found my passion and that I've found means to express and share with the world. Here is a lovely ceremony backdrop that would be perfect for any fall wedding.

Last weekend I had the chance to rent out some studio space and finally turn some of my design concepts into reality. I’ve been waiting for the right moment to use these items I bought from the Dublin flea market almost six months ago! I don’t think the southwest, boho chic trend will be ending anytime soon, so here’s my take on the trend using mostly items I collected myself from the Dublin flea market.

Majority of the items in this scene were sourced from the flea market. The cowhide star hanging, is actually a placemat, but I just thought it would really shine as part of this ceremony backdrop. For a mere 12 euro, it makes a major statement at a not so major price. I stumbled upon these straw ornaments when I almost kicked the box they were hidden in over. I stumbled upon an 8 euro gold mine!  Now that Christmas is coming up, I may reuse them for a unique take on Christmas tree decor for a neutral holiday look. The cowhide pouf is one of my favorite finds to date. I love the natural coloring and at 34 euro, it’s just the perfect addition to this scene. It will most definitely be making an appearance in our new apartment, which I cannot wait to decorate. The large faux sheepskin rug was a purchase from Avoca, an Irish treasure, and the smaller faux sheepskin rug draped over the wooden stool, is a purchase from IKEA, because when in need, go to IKEA Indeed. I actually borrowed the wooden stool from the studio and I'm sure it was very happy to make a little cameo. I already had the two geometric vases in my collection, but I've included links to similar vases below.

I hadn’t seen this studio space before the shoot, so I really wasn’t sure how my vision would come together or if I'd have enough to work with. That's why I love doing this; when you have a vision in your mind, there is no guarantee it will translate, so when it does and all the pieces come together, it's pure magic. That's how you have to be when planning your own wedding. You have to expect something might not work the way you planned and always have a plan B, and have faith that everything will work out the way it's supposed to. This wall is one of those walls I just want to have follow me around for the rest of my life, kind of like the one from my wedding venue. It’s rustic, industrial, and creamy texture is so versatile, and while modern, it's also warm and inviting. I love the neutral tones in this backdrop, it tones down the southwest feel just a bit to make it accessible for everyone. I wasn’t sure how the floating ornaments would look, but it adds a touch of whimsy to the scene.

On a personal note, as a creative, there is no better feeling than having an idea and seeing it through to completion and absolutely loving the result! It brought me right back to my own wedding day. This shoot gave me momentum and energy to keep going and continue creating beautiful moments like this.

After crunching the numbers, I spent under $200 on this ceremony backdrop! You don't always need to pay buckets for style. You may spend a bit more time digging for the treasures, but isn't that the best part?
