Evolution of my Resolutions
The first week of January I posted four pretty random reflections on my Instagram stories while I was near death due to the plague , and they oddly enough evolved into four distinct personal goals for 2019 that I’m committed to working towards the whole year. It could have been the fever or the Sudafed induced haze I was in, but instead of setting business/content goals that I know may be unattainable this year, I decided to look inward and make this year purely personal. I’m hoping if I start with the things I personally want to improve on, that will allow me to be very clear about my goals and intentions for starting a business. Which is 100% what I want to do.
I have to start somewhere, and while I don’t believe in making unrealistic unattainable new years resolutions that I’ll probably break in a month, I do believe in bettering myself and making lifestyle changes to live my best life, and finally find the courage to just go for it.
First up, the strange and random reflections I had and the goals that transpired:
I lived all of 2018 with no dresser (seriously)
Goal: Declutter my life and buy better storage for what I do have (Marie Kondo, help me!)
I actually had sore muscles from lack of exercise
Goal: Make healthy choices and stay active
I didn’t shower, wear makeup, or wash my face for three days and my skin’s appearance improved (my scent however declined…)
Goal: Invest in natural skincare, so I can still shower
Although still sick, I made the choice to get off the couch and go to my husband’s company holiday party, and Snoop Dogg was the surprise performer
Goal: Always make the choice to have fun, otherwise you may just miss a surprise Snoop Dogg concert
Secondly: Update on what steps I took toward each goal the first few weeks of the year
Goal: Declutter my life and buy better storage for what I do have
Last week we took down all of our Christmas decorations and stored them away in baskets stored in a loft space above our bathroom (out of site, but still looks pretty)
I started watching Marie Kondo’s new Netflix series to get me inspired
Before I redecorate the area I just wiped clean, I’m taking inventory of how I feel in the space currently, so I can select transitional pieces that I love and make me feel good
This one will take a while, and I’m okay with it
Goal: Make healthy choices and stay active
I meal planned and prepped breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the whole week
Pre-made breakfast and lunch to bring to work
Not only saving money, but eating healthy
I cooked dinner 4 of the 5 week nights (lately we’ve been eating out or ordering in almost every night
I still need to work on drinking way more water, especially in this dry winter
I drank a cup of hot water with lemon every morning before heading to work
Still need to work on getting more water throughout the day
I put collagen in my morning coffee
Benefits: improves skin, nails, hair, and is adding extra protein in your coffee
I did not drink alcohol from Monday-Thursday and it felt really good
My mind felt more clear and I feel like I slept better, but to me, health is balance, so I may or may not be drinking red wine while I write this…
I had 2 pieces of dark chocolate for dessert every night
Yes, that’s healthy, because a girl needs her sweet ending to the day
I bought the Medical Medium book, Life Changing Foods to help me cook with super foods
Can’t wait to break into this one!
Signed up and took for my first spin class since October, and survived
Goal: Invest in natural skincare, so I can still shower
The best decision is an informed one, so I spent time doing a lot of research and reading on skincare in general
I decided to start the year fresh and clean, so I went to my favorite day spa, Etante in the South End, and got a vitamin C facial with all natural products by Naturopathica
I love this place. You have to see Bernadette. She is so helpful in answering all my questions and she’ll really give you her honest opinion, not just push products on you. She values good skin and doing it naturally when possible. I literally talked the whole time during my visit. I asked her about chemical exfoliants, her thoughts on vitamin C, her thoughts on facial cleansers and pretty much everything else.
More to come on this as I am really passionate about skincare and getting my best skin and if I can share any tips along the way, I’m happy to do it
Goal: Always make the choice to have fun, otherwise you may just miss a surprise Snoop Dogg concert
Sometimes fun means going to see Mary Poppins Returns on your birthday while drinking prosecco and eating popcorn and milk duds, so that’s exactly what I did
Even though this week was slightly hellish being the first full week back since the holidays and being out sick, I still chose to be positive, making sad tasks like packing up our Christmas ornaments and taking down the tree more fun and easy with a good show on TV and the right packing materials (bubble wrap to the rescue)
Packing up the Christmas ornaments and taking down the tree was sad, but my husband and I did it together and had some laughs
While it looks like I did quite a bit in my first few weeks, I really just took super attainable baby steps that made me feel better by checking small things off my list. I’ll continue to share updates toward these four goals monthly and hopefully spark some new content to share on here as well. Stay tuned!
