CIY- Collect It Yourself
As discussed in my previous post, Antique State of Mind, I will be consistently sharing items I’ve sourced from antique stores and flea markets to use in my wedding designs. I purchased this hay rake from the Dublin flea market back in June. Something about the weathered color of the wood and worn wood forks just drew me in. I immediately envisioned this as a seating chart for a wedding or as a cute wall hanging at home. That and at 8 euro, I couldn't not grab it. I have this intuition with antiques. Even if I'm not quite sure what I'll use it for, I always know it will be something, so I make sure to snag it. I'm always interested in the story behind items I find at flea markets, but this one didn't offer too much intrigue. To think, someone actually used it to rake hay back in the day. It makes it all the more perfect to include in your barn wedding.
Keeping the simplicity in tact, I added some new leather string and purchased natural paper stock to continue with the rustic theme. To pretty it up a bit, I added some dried lavender bunches to the top. Against a simple white wall or simply suspended in the air, it will be a great focal point for your guests to "oooh and ahhh" over and a great conversation starter.
It’s the unexpectedness of this piece that’s makes it unique and very special.
